German Envoy Visits NUTECH to Explore Skills
Islamabad : The German Ambassador to Pakistan, Alfred Grannas, visited the National University of Technology (NUTECH) in Islamabad to explore its renowned skill development facilities.
The visit was organised at the request of Syed Abidi, a prominent educationist and career counsellor, following an invitation from Lt. Gen. (r) Moazzam Ejaz, Rector of NUTECH. The visit aimed to assess the university’s contributions towards equipping Pakistani youth with practical skills and to explore potential career opportunities for them in Europe, particularly Germany.
On his arrival, Ambassador Grannas was warmly received by the Rector, NUTECH’s management, and Syed Abidi. The visit commenced with a comprehensive presentation by the Rector, highlighting NUTECH’s educational and training capabilities with a focus on skill development initiatives. Established with a mission to bridge the gap between academia and industry, NUTECH has rapidly evolved into a leading institution offering a range of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in engineering and technology, along with cutting-edge skill development programs.
Following the presentation, the ambassador toured the university’s state-of-the-art facilities, including advanced laboratories and training centres. He interacted with faculty members, trainers, and students to gain first-hand insight into the diverse courses, certifications, and skills imparted at NUTECH. The ambassador was particularly impressed by the university’s approach to skill-based education, which not only prepares students for the local job market but also enables them to secure employment abroad, in countries such as Japan and various parts of Europe.
Ambassador Grannas expressed his admiration for NUTECH’s efforts in empowering Pakistani youth with practical skills in fields ranging from engineering to advanced manufacturing and information technology. He acknowledged that such initiatives could significantly contribute to meeting the demand for skilled labour in Germany, where thousands of trained workers are essential to sustaining the country’s trade and industry sectors.
Syed Abidi, who had earlier briefed the ambassador about NUTECH’s achievements, emphasised the importance of disseminating information about Pakistan’s skilled labour force to German employers and agencies through the embassy. He highlighted the potential of such collaborations in creating legitimate pathways for Pakistani youth to work abroad, thereby reducing the risks associated with illegal migration. Abidi’s efforts reflect a broader objective of transforming Pakistan’s workforce into a globally competitive talent pool, capable of contributing significantly to international markets.
The visit also underscored NUTECH’s commitment to aligning its training programs with global standards.
