Specialisation key for Pak women to create space in global workplace: Syed Abidi
LAHORE : Kinnaird College for Women hosted a comprehensive career counselling and scholarship guidance session by renowned educationist and career counsellor Syed Abidi where he emphasised that specialization in emerging disciplines is becoming the absolute key for Pakistani women to establish themselves in the global workplace.
The session was organised on the invitation of Prof. Dr. Iram Anjum and Vice Principal Dr. Kulsoom Tariq and was attended by final-year students from multiple academic departments.
Syed Azhar Husnain Abidi received a warm welcome from the faculty and staff of the college, including Dean of Business Studies Dr. Usamah Iyyaz Billah.
Addressing the students, Syed Abidi stressed that the global employment market is rapidly shifting towards niche expertise and interdisciplinary specialisation. He encouraged Pakistani women to move beyond conventional degree choices and explore emerging academic and professional areas where international demand is increasing significantly.
“Specialisation is the absolute key for Pakistani women to create space in the global workplace,” he remarked during the session. He explained that the future belongs to professionals who possess expertise in focused and innovative fields rather than generalised qualifications.
During his detailed presentation, Syed Abidi highlighted a wide range of emerging areas and innovative degree opportunities across the faculties of mathematical sciences, life sciences, arts and humanities, social sciences, business, and law. He discussed how women graduates can pursue advanced studies and careers in areas such as artificial intelligence, environmental sciences, biotechnology, genetics, forensic sciences, digital media, international relations, public policy, psychology, sustainability studies, data sciences, and creative industries.
Responding to a student’s question regarding future-oriented specialisations, Syed Abidi particularly emphasised the field of genetics, stating that it remains one of the major emerging areas in his focus for female students due to its expanding research scope and global career opportunities. He explained that genetics is opening pathways for women in areas including medical research, biotechnology, healthcare innovation, agricultural sciences, molecular diagnostics, and academic research worldwide. He also informed students about international scholarship opportunities available in countries including the UK, Europe, Australia, and other regions. The presentation focused particularly on how Pakistani women can position themselves competitively for admissions, scholarships, internships, and research opportunities abroad.
Syed Abidi further emphasised the importance of a strong Statement of Purpose (SOP), describing it as “the spinal cord” of scholarship and university applications. He explained that a well-written SOP plays a decisive role in communicating a student’s academic vision, career goals, research interests, achievements, and motivation to admission committees and scholarship panels. He encouraged students to develop personalised and academically focused statements that clearly reflect their long-term objectives and commitment to their chosen fields.
He provided students with practical step-by-step guidance on selecting suitable courses and universities, preparing professional CVs, developing strong scholarship applications, and understanding admission procedures for international institutions. He explained how research interests, internships, volunteer work, skill development, and a compelling Statement of Purpose can significantly strengthen scholarship applications for women students seeking higher education abroad.
The session also explored the changing dynamics of the global job market and the increasing participation of women in research, innovation, technology, entrepreneurship, and policy-making sectors worldwide. Students were encouraged to identify emerging global trends and align their academic choices with future workforce requirements.
One of the major highlights of the session was the interactive discussion segment where students actively engaged with the speaker, asking questions regarding careers, higher education options, scholarships, and future opportunities in different disciplines.
Syed Abidi responded to individual queries and shared practical insights drawn from his decades of experience in international education counselling.
The presentation was specifically designed to provide final-year students with a comprehensive understanding of the opportunities available to Pakistani women after graduation in the international market. Faculty members appreciated the session for broadening students’ perspectives regarding modern careers, specialisation trends, scholarship preparation, and global educational pathways.
The event concluded with an engaging networking interaction between students and Syed Abidi, reflecting the growing interest among Pakistani women in pursuing innovative careers and international academic opportunities.
